RE: I used E-Bay to buy something, PayPal fraud alert!

I never use link from an E mail to click on anything that involves money. I only use my bookmarks or type the known legitimate address myself.

RE: What do they teach in schools today???

The post topic, "What do they teach in schools today???" begs the question, "What did they teach in British schools".
The answer to the topic question is that the schools today teach that we have not been "the colonies" since either 1775(first shot) or 1783 (last shot), or somewhere in between. We celebrate the 1776 signing of the Declaration of Independence.

RE: Yet another vintage MH, can you identify?

Doesn't look like the Travcos we are used to seeing. They are more egg-shaped.
Would a Travco with a Ford grille be considered a Travesty? :)

RE: What do they teach in schools today???

I have a very strong British accent
The number of people who have wished me "Happy 4th July" and looked completely blank when I said that I'm British and we don't really celebrate the 4th.

Lighten up a little. It's a holiday.
When living in another country, or even visiting, it is gracious and courteous to pay lip service to the customs of the land. Plus, it can be enjoyable, if you let it.
I have lifted many a glass to Dominion Day, Cinco de Barracho, Burns Night, etc, without the need to remind anyone of my nationality. I have even participated in events I did not understand in languages I barely spoke, but managed to have a good time and take some good pictures. :)

RE: Two 6v and one 12v battery, possible ?

Economic necessities forced me to run a pair of six-volters in parallel with a 12-volter.
It was not ideal, but no problems. I liked to use and charge them separately, but sometimes it was simpler to use them in parallel and quicker to charge them in parallel. Again, not ideal, but no problems. Did it for a few years until I had to buy a complete new matching set.

RE: 3 ways to recharge when dry camping -- which is best?

I want to recharge my battery as fast as I can and then turn off the generator.
Which ever method you use, charging above 80% state of charge wastes fuel and makes unnecessary noise.
There must be a way to figure out which of those three options will recharge my battery in the fastest time. Your advice is appreciated!!
Only an ammeter can answer your question accurately. Some things just gotta be measured.

RE: Grey water disposal revisited

My unit has 3 tanks, the galley tank and dump valve is totally seperate from the other 2, so how is this different from a tent camper dishpan??
Makes sense, but do you think a ranger or whatever would buy it?

RE: Yet another vintage MH, can you identify?

I think the Barths were all aluminum.
There was a series of 35 ft DPs that were more or less stretched FMCs on an MCC chassis with DD engines. 81-83. By 84 they had aluminum skin and body structure.

RE: *Quieten That Generator!*

Any open frame generator will be noisy even if you take ALL the exhaust noise out of the equation.
This can be demonstrated by holding a ball of rags over the exhaust for a few seconds.

RE: Solar or generator?

We do fine on 165 watts of solar and two GC batts as long as the sun shines. Otherwise, we run our little Honda EX650. It is quiet and very fuel efficient. We don't run the gen until the batts are down to 505, and charge only up to 80% to minimize noise and fuel burn.
We tilt the panels in the winter due to low sun and short days.

RE: honda 100 watt generator owners - will it...

Most chargers do not deliver their rated current unless the battery is REALLY low. My 75 amp charger puts around 30 amps into my two golf cart batts when they are down to around 50%. My little Honda EX650 does it fine.

RE: Black tank treatments

Happy Camper treatment is the greatest stuff I've ever bought. This stuff will knock bad odors down and they don't come back up. Period!
We are happy with it, too. Ours sits a few weeks without dumping and no odor. We had record highs up and down the CA coast a coupla weeks ago, and no problem.

RE: Mods: Suggested Action For certain Subjects

Did anyone mention guns and/or accordians in the campground?
RT
Not in the same campground, I hope.
I never play my accordion if I think someone might have a gun.

RE: Gas Engine, Torque and Economy?

.....when I slowed to 58 MPH from 63 the mileage went from 7 mpg to 8.1. I'm sure a lot of the increase is due to less air resistance.
Just playing with numbers, and the square of 63 mph is just under 18% up from the square of 58 mph. And the difference between the mileage is just under 16%, so the velocity squared rule of thumb is pretty close in this example.

RE: Refrigerator caused a fire

So, the fix is a switch installed on the coils.
Does anyone have any more information on this? It is an overheat thermal switch, or what? It sounds like an overheat shut off would be a good idea for any RV fridge.

RE: Cut rate auto parts

The only good fan clutches I have ever had were OEM.
Yup. A company that did engine conversions had a number of bad experiences with aftermarket fan clutches. They ate a lot of warranty expenses. OEM GM clutches were the only ones that provided consistent failure-free service.

RE: Emergency Road Service. Satisfied With Your Provider?

My ERS is included wirh my AARP/Hartford insurance at no extra cost and covers more than any of the paid type plans.
Have never had to use it yet so I'm very happy with the plan.
Some insurance companies hold it against you if you use their road service. One poster here, GarryP, found that they would not renew his policy due to their system of counting a road service call as a claim.
Give it a search for the details.
